About the 8th Grade Trip

The 8th grade trip is a culminating experience for students after many years together in the same class at CLWS. It is an opportunity to celebrate their unique and close community, to reminisce about years past, and to challenge themselves by being away from their family and familiar surroundings for an extended period of time.

The trip is led by the class teacher and another, non-parent chaperone, and ranges in length from a week to 10 days. The students, teachers, and families engage in a variety of fundraising activities to contribute to the communal reserve that supports the cost of the trip, including scholarships to cover those families who can’t manage the expected per-student contribution.

The students contribute ideas of where the class might like to go, and the trip typically includes immersive experiences in nature, such as camping, kayaking in the ocean, canoeing a river, or hiking in the mountains. Depending on location and accessibility, the trip may also include service opportunities, and a shorter urban experience, such as an historical tour or a market day. Mostly, the students love the opportunity just to be together as a class family before dispersing to different high schools after graduation.

Thank you for your support of our 8th grade students!
