2017 summer program

Registration is filling fast for City of Lakes Waldorf School’s 2017 Summer Program! All families are warmly invited to register, including new families who would like to experience a “taste of Waldorf.”

Grade School Summer Program

The Grade School Summer Program is is led by our talented Extended Day staff and designed for children ages 7 to 12.

Sessions/Hours:

Grades summer sessions are offered for three weeks in June: June 12-16, June 19-23, and June 26-30, 2017.  Families may sign up for 1, 2 or all 3 weeks. Hours are 8:30 am  3:00 pm. For more information, including rates and FAQs, please click here.

Program Schedule:

Each week will be centered around a unique art project in the morning, organized movement and games in the afternoon, and will culminate in a special Friday field trip.

make a cigar box guitarWeek 1: June 12-16
Art Project: Building a Cigar Box Guitar
Students will learn how to build their own four-string guitar, and perhaps some songs to play on it!
Field Trip: The Schubert Club Museum

papermakingWeek 2: June 19-23
Art Project: Paper Making
Learn how to make homemade paper using a blender, recycled paper, and accents such as flower petals and leaves. Then, turn your paper into booklets and journals.
Field Trip: Minnesota Center for Book Arts

cyanotypeWeek 3: June 26-30
Art Project: Sun Printing
Using a photographic technique called “cyanotype,” we’ll create beautiful patterns on paper and t-shirts using only the light of the sun.
Field Trip: Fort Snelling State Park

What to Bring:

Children should bring their own snack and lunch. All children should wear comfortable clothing (clothes may get dirty) and shoes appropriate for running and other active play. Please send along sunscreen and/or hats and a water bottle, both labeled with the child’s name. (If a day trip is planned, transportation will be organized and parents will be asked for a signed consent form.) All program days begin and end at City of Lakes Waldorf School unless otherwise noted.

Registration:

Submit your signed registration form and check payable to City of Lakes Waldorf School to the Admissions Office. Sorry, no partial refunds are available for vacations, play dates, appointments, illness absences, or cancellations, except as provided for in our Policies and Terms.

Early Childhood Summer Program

Led by a Waldorf Early Childhood teacher and two assistants, our Early Childhood Summer Camp is filled with the same gentle rhythm found during the Waldorf school year. This program is designed for children ages 3 to 6 (in Preschool or Kindergarten) who are toilet-trained; please call the City of Lakes Waldorf School Admissions Office at 612-767-1502 to discuss age-related questions.

Sessions/Hours:

Early Childhood summer sessions are offered for three weeks in June: June 12-16 (FULL), June 19-23 (FULL), and June 26-30, 2017 at our Loring Park Campus. Families may sign up for 1, 2, or all 3 weeks. Hours are 8:30 am  noon. Afternoon care is available until 3:00 pm for an additional fee, payable with your registration. For more information, including rates and FAQs, please click here.

Daily Rhythm:

We will laugh, sing, and honor the spirit of summer with a daily rhythm that includes play time, crafts, outdoor play and games, planting, snack-making, and more.

What to Bring:

Nutritious snacks will be prepared in the classroom each day by the teachers and children as part of their morning together. Children staying for afternoon care should bring their own lunch and an afternoon snack. All children should wear comfortable clothing and shoes appropriate for running and other active play.
